Esther in Hong Kong | Day 1

Hi peeps~ Back in 2010, I was on a group tour with my mum to three destinations, Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. I was pretty excited the moment I glanced through their itinerary because they had included the Hong Kong Disneyland into the trip !! That's the reason why I kept convincing my mum to join this trip XD

So, let's start with Day 1! We had flown with MAS airline to Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur and roughly about 4 hours, we finally touched down at the Chek Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport. Our local Hong Kong tour guide greeted us and we proceeded to our bus to prepare our first destination. During the bus ride, we had passed by the stunning Hong Kong Tsing Ma Bridge (青馬大橋). Hong Kong Tsing Ma Bridge is one of the famous landmarks in Hong Kong. It is the world's ninth-longest suspension bridge and was named after two of the islands at its ends, namely Tsing Yi and Ma Wan, (Thanks Wikipedia!..lol) Too bad it was raining and I couldn't get a better glimpse of that bridge.

Only manage to capture 1/4 of the bridge structure on the bus

My heart actually raced in excitement upon seeing this bridge as I knew I was officially entering the Hong Kong island!!

Can't figure out this is residential or commercial building

This surely has to be residential building XD

The first stop was the Golden Bauhinia Square (金紫荊廣場), which is situated at Wan Chai. You will see a golden-flower-like-statue positioned in an open area next to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It seems like a trophy to me even until now. The statue features a golden Bauhinia blakeana, the Hong Kong orchid tree that you will see in their national flag. This statue is a symbol of Hong Kong handover and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) back in 1997. According to our tour guide, there will be a daily flag-raising ceremony here at 8am.

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

If you feel that the Hong Kong Convention Centre is familiar to you, yes, it is the same building where Jackie Chan had a fight with Daniel Wu in the dramatic finale of the New Police Story movie back in year 2004.

Next stop was the Repulse Bay (淺水灣), which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong. Once I alighted from my tour bus, I had a second thought that I was back in Malaysia again..lol. Unfolding in front of me was the curvy,sandy-white beach with crystal clear water waiting for us to dip our bodies in. Our tour guide mentioned that this area is one of the most expensive housing areas in Hong Kong due to its good Fengshui prospects. We then visited the Kwun Yam Shrine and the colourful Tin Hau Temple at the Repulse Bay. The Kwun Yam statue faces the sea in order to protect the fishermen from bad weather and harm when they are making a living for their family.

After Repulse Bay, we proceeded to the Aberdeen fishing village (香港仔渔村). When I say fishing village, the first thought that comes to your mind should be villages built upon lands, facing the sea or river. However, Aberdeen villagers are actually staying in their boathouses/sampan afloat on the sea. They will go to the sea to catch some fresh seafood in the day and rest in the same boat after they have done with their catching. The Aberdeen villagers are dubbed the "boat people" by the locals. It was also claimed that the first batch of Hong Kong citizens actually originated from the Aberdeen village.

The main highlight for the Aberdeen fishing village is the Jumbo Kingdom (珍寶王國), a double-storey floating restaurant which consists of Jumbo Floating Restaurant and Tai Pak Floating Restaurant.

The final stop for Day 1 is at Madam Tussauds Wax Museum (香港杜莎夫人蜡像馆) situated at The Peak, which is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island. Overlooking the Victoria Harbour, The Peak is also famously known for its perfect spot to capture the city's spectacular night view. Of course, I quickly grabbed a nice position and captured the view before going into the Madam Tussauds XD.

Hong Kong City Night View from The Peak

To be up here on The Peak, there is a tram service for its patrons where tickets could be purchased from the customer service counter at The Peak Tower. I went up there by our tour bus. This is one of the privileges of joining group tours XD

We then proceeded to the Madam Tussauds Wax Museum. At the entrance, I stunned in astonishment as I looked at the life-like wax figure of Kungfu legend, Bruce Lee! It was a 99% lookalike!

More life-like wax figures once we entered the museum. Be prepared for tonnes of photo spamming.

In total, it was really an unforgettable experience for me to visit the Madam Tussauds Wax Museum. They must have contributed endless effort in order to complete just one wax figure. That sums up my first day in Hong Kong and do stay tuned for my second day destination which is the Hong Kong Disneyland~ Good night peeps !

Unveiling Me

Hi everybody! This is Esther living in the Kuala Lumpur city of Malaysia~ Big shoutout to readers out there! It really takes me a lot of courage and effort to start writing on this blog, particularly because I am always a reserved and non-adventurous girl. Yup, that's me. I prefer to have my things done on a safe side; in a safe order. I know life does not mean to be spent that way and I can't wait to change it~ So, let's start on this blissful journey together.

Yup..that's me. Sorry for the low quality photo from iPhone 4 XD
